Turkey: Because Chicken was too basic and beef was too bold! Turkey is one of my most preferred choice of cooked meat for my dog purely because of the rich amount of nutrients it packs. It’s a great source of Vitamin B, selenium and zinc. It’s a rich source of protein and low in fat.

Ground Turkey Recipe for dogs
Ingredients
- 4 lbs Raw ground Turkey Make sure to check fat content on the package
- 1 5/8 cups Raw quinoa
- 2 ½ tsp Coconut Oil
- 2 ½ tsp Safflower Oil
- 2 ½ tsp Salmon Oil
- 1 1/8 cups Raw Green Beans
- 1 1/6 cups Raw, chopped broccoli
- 1 ¾ cups Raw Cabbage
- 1 1/6 cups Raw Celery
- 2 2/3 Cups Raw spinach leaves
- 7/8 cup Raw, chopped Zucchini
- 1 cup Raw, chopped Apple with skin
- 7/8 cup Blueberries raw
Instructions
- In a large, deep saucepan, cook the ground turkey until lightly brown. Cooking large amounts of ground Turkey may require regular, intermittent mixing to ensure that it is evenly cooked. Set aside once done.
- In the same saucepan, add coconut oil and let it heat
- Add the green beans first as they take time to cook.
- After cooking the beans for a few minutes, mix in the chopped broccoli, cabbage, celery and zucchini. Let them cook until partially softened
- Add the quinoa and water in the ratio of 1:2. This means for every 1 cup of raw quinoa, you need 2 cups of water.
- Mix in the Spinach
- Let it cook until the quinoa becomes fluffy. Pour in safflower and salmon oil once the quinoa is cooked
- Once ready, mix in the Turkey, chopped apples and Blueberries while giving it a good mix
Notes
- Cooking a large amount of raw ground turkey may be quite exhausting as it requires continuous stirring and mixing. Boiling is a great way to tenderize and cook large amount of ground meat. Stirring becomes a lot easier and the meat is cooked evenly.
- You can use the broth to cook quinoa and the veggies
- You can keep the chopped fruits separate and add them right into the dog’s bowl while feeding them.
- Be sure to remove the apple seeds, as they are toxic to dogs
- Store three days' worth in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Freeze remaining food in three-day portions. Defrost in the refrigerator on the first day of use.
Storage and Reheating Guidelines
- Allow food to completely cool before storing
- Portions are freezable for up to 3 months
- Personally, I like to divide the quantities in boxes that can contain food for up to 2 days. I keep one box in the fridge and the remaining boxes in the freezer
- Thaw frozen portions overnight in the refrigerator
- Warm refrigerated portions slightly in the microwave before serving
Tried, Tested & Loved: My Kitchen Favorites for Dog Food Prep
Since I started making my dog’s meals at home, batch-making 2 weeks’ worth of food has been the way to go for me. This means that normal-sized saucepans and stockpots don’t cut it. My cookware for my dog’s fresh homemade meals come in L and XL sizes.
I am very particular about the quality of cookware I use to make Mango’s meals. I tend to stay away from non-stick. Steel is my preferred option as it is not only ultra-safe but also doesn’t dent my wallet as much. This stainless steel stockpot can hold up to 7.6 ltrs –
